Witness Blanket Visit

In November, Students from 7E and 8E2 had the opportunity to travel to Bathurst to view the Witness Blanket. Inspired by a woven blanket, the Witness Blanket is a large-scale work of art. It contains hundreds of items reclaimed from residential schools, churches, government buildings and traditional and cultural structures from across Canada. It is an amazing replica with so many stories woven into the display. To learn more about the exhibit visit: https://witnessblanket.ca/

Exploring Hearing and Communication: A Hands-On Learning Experience

Last week, the Grade 6, 7, and 8 FI students had an incredible opportunity to learn more about the ear and gain insight into the experiences of individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Amy-Jo Thériault and her mother visited our class, and Amy-Jo gave an engaging presentation on how the ear functions.

The students explored various hearing aids and devices that assist people who are deaf or hard of hearing. They also had the chance to handle a prototype of the ear and different types of hearing aids, making the learning experience hands-on and interactive.

To deepen their understanding, the students were introduced to basic sign language, broadening their appreciation of how communication can take many forms.

A heartfelt thank you to Amy-Jo and her mother for taking the time to share their knowledge and experiences with our class! It was an enriching and unforgettable experience for everyone.

Exploring Carpentry in Grade 7 & 8

During this activity period, students from grades 7 and 8, had the opportunity to explore Carpentry, gaining hands-on experience with a variety of tools, including power tools and stationary equipment, while emphasizing safety. They then learned to operate the CNC machine, using it to carve intricate designs into wood. To put their skills into practice, students crafted custom utensil holders for our learning kitchen.
